About Sleep Apnea

More than 12 million people, including almost 1/3 of truck drivers suffer from sleep apnea, a common disorder where breathing is disrupted for periods of time during sleep. Learn more about the symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options for this surprisingly common condition here.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep Apnea is a condition where you stop breathing during sleep. An individual with sleep apnea may not be aware this is happening. Untreated sleep apnea can lead to excessive daytime sleepiness, fatigue and other serious health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart problems. Whether obstructive, central, or mixed, sleep apnea causes a pause in breath for as long as a minute at a time, preventing the patient from getting the good night’s sleep they deserve.

Indicators of Sleep Apnea:

  • Morning Headaches
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Daytime Sleepiness
  • Fatigue
  • Snoring
  • BMI over 30
  • Large Neck Size (> 17”)

These symptoms, as well as the results of a proper sleep test, will help determine the severity of the apnea. Once you have been properly diagnosed, solutions can be discussed. Sleep apnea testing can determine the difference between a healthier, livelier, more vibrant you, and can help you begin the journey to proper treatment.

Restore Quality Sleep

Sleeping is a necessity for a long and healthy life, as this is the time your body truly goes to work. Sleep helps you fight off weight issues, protects you from diseases, commits information to memory and helps you avoid moodiness and irritability. This is why sleep apnea testing is so important — finding the solution for your sleep disorder will not only help you rest, but it will improve your overall quality of life.

At Aeroflow Industrial, our sleep specialists are committed to helping you find the treatment that works best for your needs. Sleep apnea often goes untreated or is mistaken for normal snoring. With the help of our home sleep apnea test, you can change your life and get the most out of every moment…day or night.

Diagnoses for Sleep Apnea

If you are diagnosed with mild sleep apnea, you can begin a more conservative treatment plan. Mild treatment might involve eliminating the use of alcohol and sedatives, making diet changes in order to lose weight, and avoiding sleeping on your back.

The most effective obstructive sleep apnea treatment is continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Pressure settings are determined on an individual basis and will be recommended by your dedicated sleep specialist.

If you have 20 or more breathing cessation episodes in an hour, then you would be eligible for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatment. The number of breathing cessation episodes per hour is often referred to as the apnea-hypopnea index, or the respiratory disturbance index. If a patient with less than 20 episodes per hour is experiencing issues such as fatigue, sleepiness or serious complications such as heart failure, they would also qualify for OSA treatment.
