Sleep deprivation behind the wheel has been cited to have similar effects as intoxication. In fact, drowsy driving is responsible for 20% of all motor vehicle crashes each year. Because nearly 80% of people with sleep apnea are undiagnosed, it is imperative that commercial motor vehicle companies ensure their drivers are adequately screened for sleep disorders. This will significantly reduce the risk of CMV accidents, make highways safer, and save trucking companies billions of dollars every year.
Aeroflow Industrial Clinics can assist with the process of screening drivers for sleep apnea, performing sleep studies, and providing treatment supplies if necessary. For commercial drivers who require a sleep study in order to pass their DOT physical, Aeroflow will help make the process as quick and easy as possible.
How It Works
The Aeroflow sleep study is an FDA-approved in-home test for drivers that costs much less than tests performed at a sleep lab, and provides all the data necessary to diagnose sleep apnea. The sleep study can be taken in the comfort of your own home or truck, making it an excellent choice for commercial drivers on-the-go. Drivers will receive the sleep study in the mail with instructions for use, and after four hours of data has been captured, drivers just ship the device (in its prepaid package) back to our facility. After we review the test results, our Board-Certified Sleep Physician will call the driver to review their results and make treatment recommendations if necessary.
If a driver is diagnosed with sleep apnea and a CPAP machine is determined as the best treatment, Aeroflow Industrial Clinics works with drivers to get set up on a CPAP machine, answer their questions about treatment and monitor their usage. Aeroflow will provide drivers with a modem to collect their sleep data, allowing us to continuously monitor a driver’s compliance with DOT regulations.
